Université TÉLUQ professor Dr. Afef Benessaieh awarded SSHRC funding to further research into cultural identity figures in the Americas
Quebec City, May 28, 2018 – Dr. Afef Benessaieh, Professor of International and Cultural Studies in the Department of Human Sciences, Art and Communication at Université TÉLUQ, has received grant funding through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s Insight program valued at $84,943 over three years.
The grant will be used to fund a research project led by Dr. Benessaieh, entitled Multiculturalism, interculturalism or transculturalism: The discourse and representations surrounding cultural identity in the Americas from a Quebec perspective.
“I would like to congratulate Dr. Benessaieh, as few internationalists like her specialize in issues of cultural diversity. This project is yet another testament to the wealth and diversity of our university,” said Martin Noël, President of Université TÉLUQ.
The project will benefit from the involvement of distinguished University of Ottawa professor and holder of the University Research Chair in Socio-Cultural Changes in Canada, Dr. Patrick Imbert, as well as two postgraduate students. According to Dr. Benessaieh, “the research will focus mainly on current Quebec and Caribbean literature and tap into the imaginary, mixing and rhizomatic versatility observed in cultural appearances that are so unique to the identity representations emanating from the Americas.”
